Award set up by the Foundation
The “Lebendige Stadt” Foundation presents a Foundation Award each year in recognition of innovative civic projects such as particularly outstanding cultural and civic marketing events, successful city displays comprising elements such as light, sound and water (as temporary or permanent installations), and projects in the field of building conservation and tourism, especially if these are of cultural or artistic value.

The "Lebendige Stadt" Foundation is calling on cities, municipalities and the cultural sector to apply for the 2024 Foundation Award.
The most attractive rail station environment

Railway stations and their surroundings are the calling card of a town or city; they have a major influence on the overall image and are often the first impression for visitors to the city centre. Yet many station districts are ugly or even places of fear or anxiety. Many cities and municipalities have made changes in recent years in order to address this problem. Intelligent and creative concepts pave the way for safer and cleaner spaces, attractive seating areas, brighter illumination, more appealing green areas, sustainable transport connections and the establishment of food and retail outlets. In addition, innovative concepts for the cooperation of all relevant stakeholders help to enhance the rail station environment and underpin the positive image of a city or municipality.
The award is open to rail station environments (without rail station building) with a design, a management concept and mobility connections that turn them into attractive and vibrant urban spaces. The Foundation seeks to promote best practice examples that can serve as models for other cities and municipalities.
The award carries a total cash prize of 15,000 euros.
